Fashion Holidays, sure can be sexy!

Needing improving ideas for this Christmas? Something to feel incredible that magical night? Fashion designers often feel they need to leave Vancouver for the big city (which can be anything from Toronto to New York, London, Paris, or Milan) in order to make it big. Few travel the other way, but one who did is Malene Grotrian, the designer behind a new label that features glamorous, finely detailed bustiers and eveningwear.

Wearing a long, chunky-knit cardigan, Grotrian snacks on a bagel as she describes how she ended up designing bustiers and other form-fitting garments. “I began making corsets when I was in school [at TEKO Center, a Danish educational institute linked to the fashion and lifestyle industries], and always liked the challenge of a bustier,” she says. “They need to have a perfect fit, because they’re so close to the body.”

Blushing Boutique was one of the first retailers to carry this year’s Malene Grotrian winter collection, although Grotrian says the upcoming spring line will be her official debut. Regardless, her bustiers have already proven popular, due to the fact that Grotrian has few competitors in Vancouver and, of course, the garment’s dress-up appeal.
“Holiday is the traditional way to think of bustiers,” she says, “but my challenge is to make them more dress-down-able.” The bustiers range from $300 to $500, with most falling in the lower end of that range. “They’re not cheap,” acknowledges Grotrian, “but I have no problem spending more money on a jacket, because you wear it so much. I think the same goes for a bustier.”
While a black satin number with feather trim ($360) is glamorous and easy to imagine at a ball (Grotrian herself will be wearing it on New Year’s Eve), others—such as one in teal satin or another in a brown leaf print with keyhole detailing (both $300)—can be dressed down by wearing them over a white blouse, under a blazer, or even with jeans. “You can really get a different feeling depending on how you wear it and what you wear it with,” Grotrian says.
Other pieces include a red and charcoal floral number that’s stunning when worn with a floor-length red skirt, and a cream organza style with floral appliqués. Grotrian also likes to use unexpected fabrics, such as the wools and tweeds of business suits, and sometimes adds details like feather trim or contrast stitching. (The entire collection is produced locally and is available in sizes 2 through 14; pieces are also available at the Velvet Room Boutique [2248 West 41st Avenue].)
Each bustier contains flexible spiral-metal boning to help create an hourglass figure. “Women love the feeling you get when you put one on,” she says. “They’re super-feminine and give every woman a waist and lots of confidence.” And of course, you will feel extra special for this Holidays Season, why can’t you feel sexy all year?

When he was murdered in 1997, his sister Donatella Versace took over this prestigious label in the design department. Gianni Versace’s brother, Santo was declared CEO of the Versace
brand. Designer clothing of the Versace group has always used electric colors and fitting silhouettes for the woman. Versace for men, always teeters closely to slim silhouettes and cleans lines. Christina Aguilera, latest look

Back in 2006, Christina Aguilera, was masquerading as a singing, dancing Vargas girl, a 1940s pinup re-imagined as a 2000s pop princess. Since her last album, well … let’s just say things are a little bit different.

Because when Aguilera unveiled her brand new look at the 2008 Video Music Awards, it was as if that retro queen had been packed into a capsule and rocketed headlong into the future. Gone were the soft curls and pleated skirts, replaced instead with impossibly angular bangs, thigh-high boots and enough pleather to make Catwoman blush.
It was, to coin a term, “future fetish.” And when MTV News sat down with Aguilera last week in Los Angeles to talk about her greatest-hits album, Keeps Getting Better, and her “futuristic” new record, we decided to run our new phrase by her and, surprise, surprise, she sort of liked it.

“I wanted to give [fans] a little sneak preview of what’s to come [with the VMA performance]. The vein of the new material is a futuristic take on what is inspiring me at the moment … and it’s got a very pop-art feel, visually,” she explained. “[There's a] throwback to Andy Warhol and all the colors and vividness and bright boldness that was in that artwork. I’m a big collector of pop art and graffiti art at this point, too — D*Face and Banksy, also Roy Lichtenstein … and it’s been very fun venturing off into that zone.”
Of course, there are plenty of folks out there who couldn’t help but notice that Xtina’s new look was also slightly influenced by a more, uh, “contemporary” source, electro-pop sensation Lady Gaga, right down to the penchant for patent leather and the raccoon eye makeup.
But Aguilera just laughs those comparisons off. And though she name-drops artists like Sia and Goldfrapp as big inspirations for her current look and sound, she’s quick to point out that she’s not terribly focused on the current state of music. Rather, she’s styled herself in a manner that pays homage to artists from the past, all while looking towards the future too.
“I was very inspired by the look and feel of that [pop-art] genre, your Jane Birkins, your Blondies, females who have come before who have done this so many times and so well — almost as an homage to them,” she explained. “Also, speaking of Warhol, Nico from the Velvet Underground … so it all kind of ties in to a pop-art feel and twist, with a mod look. But a futuristic taste of what’s to come.”

Mary Kate Olsen uses dead animal bags?

Mary Kate Olsen was snapped arriving at LAX this past weekend.
Since it’s an Olsen twin, she is in the fashion eye, but what it caught our surprise, wasn’t her nice outfit match, but her purse, what we’re assuming the bag she’s carrying is made from real animal fur. Serve yourselves.
A popular star, and make-trender fashionista like her, and her sister, should take more on the thing she wear, just remember Jennifer Lopez big fight against Peta’s memmbers.
Carry on girl.

Hot summer in L.A.

When summer time comes to Los Angeles, bikinis are still the rage on the beaches. Which is partly why the Spring Mercedes Benz Fashion Week had four big designers showing swimwear, and why the men at MBFW were all smiles.
Swimwear design is getting bigger and hotter than ever this Fashion Week – with showcases from Caroline D’Amore, Beach Bunny, and Joseph Domingo. Even Debra Davenport showed a St.Tropez illusion of a one piece swimsuit and an unusual bikini with a detachable silk georgette skirt as a part of the trend.
Domingo’s 40-piece spring collection 2009 is simply called “SKIN” because San Francisco based Joseph wants to points out ” bare shoulders can be more seductive than being naked”
Joseph Domingo was presenting a collection of one and two piece bathing suit line as a opening act for cocktail dresses and evening gowns. His swimuits are well coordinated to fit the same pattern of short organza dresses. The pattern are orange magnolia flowers and orange leather bucklets and beads as details.
He also shows light chiffon and smooth silk georgette evening and cocktaildresses-all of a touch of lavish luxury.
The color varies from nude tone to white, and the fabrics theme along with fish scale scallops and “Garden Of Eden”leaf details.

New Bathingsuit Line

Former model turned designer Caroline D’Amore was dejeeing the music for her own D’Amore by Marceau bathingsuitline that was presented by Love Lea.
For Spring 2009 she is showing a classic swim suit line of string bikinis with metallic dots and one- piece halter swim suits with low tie belts in primary colors black and white. The same suits were also shown in animal prints and solid gold metallic. She got support from actress Mena Souvari, best known for her starring role in American Beauty and the Kardashian sisters sitting in the front row.

Beach Bunny swimwear designer Angela Chittenden is inspired by the couture lingerie that once was reserved for only the bedroom. She told Hollywood Today “Just pick the suit that suits your mood, looks and body.”
It all about the “Malibu Barbie” and the black and “French Maid” look for next season, which should drive guys wild. There are pieces in her line she calls the “nautical-but nice, “Wild child” and “Steal my kisses” and the names leaves nothing – but imagination. The eye catching details are ruffles, lace trims, pearl-chain straps and vintage brooches.

Shoes

Springs shoes are noteworthy for their architecture: soaring heights and fretwork. There were the caged booties at Saint Laurent (with evening heels in a silver grid pattern), surrealist wedges at Fendi, and Dior stilettos with heels molded in the shape of African fertility symbols. John Galliano’s metal platforms were perplexing as well as noisy as they tapped down the runway; the heel and sole seemed to be reflected duplicated. Hard to tell. Feather pompoms kissed the backs of Chanel’s silvery shoes. Louis Vuitton’s standout shoes seemed in concert with its sculptural jewelry. Jil Sander’s black suede stilettos were shapely and modern, some with a wide strap around the ankles. There were lots and lots of monster-truck platforms—at Dolce, Marni, Cavalli—ready to drive through next spring.
